Smoked Pork Tenderloin – Tender, juicy, and loaded with flavor! A super easy protein you can smoke quickly for any night of the week!
Last week in the Chocolate Tofu Pudding post I shared all about my trip to Des Moines with Best Food Facts and all that we learned about soybean farming, sustainability, and the nutrition behind soy.
Well today I am here to share a great summer dinner recipe using one of my all-time favorite soy products…soy sauce! I mean seriously, who doesn’t love the stuff?! It adds such a great flavor to the pork in this marinade and them smokes for just over an hour for a great easy dinner.

Soy beans are a naturally cholesterol-free food that is full of lots of different nutrients. They are high in protein and fiber, as well as rich in vitamin B6, phosphorus and iron. Soy sauce is rich in antioxidants and isoflavones. It can be high in sodium, so I always buy the reduced-sodium variety for my house.
Smoked Pork Tenderloin Marinade
I usually like to use a rub and just throw meat on the smoker to really get that smoke flavor. But for the pork tenderloin, I decided to use a marinade. It gives the pork just a different dimension of flavor than just smoking. You can let it sit in the marinade for 1-24 hours. So it is great to make in the morning or even the night before.
- Soy Sauce
- Honey
- Olive Oil
- Brown Sugar
- Garlic
- Onion Powder
How To Smoke Pork Tenderloin
- Mix together all of the ingredients for the marinade.
- Add the pork and marinade to a food storage bag, seal and squish it around to fully coat the pork.
- Store in the fridge for at least an hour, up to 24 hours.
- Preheat smoker to 225º F.
- Place the pork tenderloins directly on the smoker grate and cook for 60-90 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 145º F.
- Let the pork rest for 3 minutes, and then slice to serve. It is great topped with your favorite barbecue sauce.
How Long To Smoke Pork Tenderloin
It will take 60-90 minutes to cook a pork tenderloin. But this can vary based on the size and thickness of your pork tenderloin. The ones from the grocery store tend to be a little smaller sometimes versus the ones that you buy at a wholesale club. And it will vary depending on how steady your smoker keeps the temperature.
As with smoking any meat it is best to cook to the temperature and use a thermometer to know when it is done.
Smoked Pork Tenderloin Temp
When you are cooking pork, it is recommended to cook it to 145º F. The best way to ensure you hit the right temperature is to use a thermometer. Especially when you are smoking, every cut of meat is just a little different. So going by time can mean under or over cooked meat. Lots of people stay away from pork because they think it is dry, but this is really because they over cook it. If you cook it to the right temperature, just look at how juicy it is!
I use the Thermapen Mk4 to check the temperature of the meat throughout the cooking process. It is the most accurate thermometer I have found and have been using it for years!
What To Serve With Smoked Pork Tenderloin
What’s The Difference Between Pork Tenderloin and Pork Loin
Pork Tenderloin is a long and narrow cut of the pig that comes from along the backbone. It is very tender and has a strong pork flavor. It tends to be darker in color. Even when it is cooked, sometimes it will still have a pinkish hue to it. It does not turn completely white like a pork loin.
Pork Loin is a wider, flatter, and much larger cut of meat. Sometimes you will see it sold on the bone. It is a tender and more mild tasting cut of meat. This cut is much more like a roast, it will sometimes even be called pork loin roast. It is still a great cut for smoking though, it will just take longer. The relationship between pigs and soybeans is something I never realized before visiting a farm. But 64% of pig farmers grow soybeans on their farms as well. The soybeans are then used to help feed the animals. The manure from the pigs is then used to help the crops grow. It is just part of what makes for sustainable farming.

Ingredients
- 2 1-pound pork tenderloins
- 2 Tablespoons honey
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Mix together the honey, olive oil, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic and onion powder. Add the pork and marinade to a food storage bag, seal and squish it around to fully coat the pork.
